Highly Successful Visit to Stranraer

Fifteen Gangrels and guests who were to make up nearly 4 Rinks for a day's social curling at North West Castle on Wed 11 Oct had a superb day's curling both in the morning and the afternoon, with a light lunch of soup and sandwiches in between.  The ice was in superb condition, keen and swingy, the competition spirit high, the food and drinks a delight and, overall, we were extremely well looked after.  It was a real pleasure and one that should not be missed for future events.

The competition scoring was based on cumulative shots up with the morning Rinks being changed for play in the afternoon session.  Team McFadzen (McFadzean, P Reynolds, Cattanach and Sue Reynolds) met Team Peat (Peat, Niblock, Hogg and J McLeod) in the first session while Team Hope (Hope, Dunlop and Ed Bains) played Team Watson (Watson, Galloway, Haddow and Sheila Scott).    At the lunch break, Team Peat were 6 shots up and Team Hope 5.  After a delicious lunch in lovely surroundings, the Rinks reconvened on the ice with Team McFadzean facing Team Hope, and Team Peat facing Team Watson.  Team Hope prevail with another win of 3 shots while Team Peat repeated their morning success of another + 6 shot win.  Overall, Team Peat won with a 12-shot differential and Team Hope came second with +8.

Vice President Donald presented the winners with their prizes and thanked Gail Munro and the NWC Staff for their individual and collective contributions to what had been a thoroughly enjoyable and social curling event held in very pleasing and comfortable surroundings.

(Thanks to our excellent Secretary for all his hard work in ensuring the success of our visit, and to David Hope for the above photo.)
