First Week of President's Cup

Week One of the President's Cup and already I have problems.  This is the competition where the skip leads the team and the third skips the team and I never know who to put as winning the games. So for the moment the teams are still known by the skip's name. I may change that as the weeks go by, just so you can all be as confused as I am.

The next problem is that the ice rink couldn't give us the sheets of ice we wanted for this competition and this is why two teams got byes on the first week. The committee decreed that each of those teams would receive 1 point, 4 ends and 4 shots.

There were only three games on the ice tonight and the winning teams were  Ken Ross (Ernest Mutter), Colin Naismith (Robert Charters) and Jim Dunlop (Richard Morrison).

The league table is here.

Next week instead of the President's Cup we are playing our annual match for the Drew Duncan Quaich.

The draw is taken from the finishing positions in the Fraser Cup and is as follows:

Colin Naismith  v   George Hay
Allan Hastie     v   Francis McCrossin
Jim Dunlop       v   Ken Ross
Peter Kennedy  v   Peter Galloway

The game will be over 8 ends with each player skipping for two ends.  If there are only three players, the first two players will skip for three ends and the normal skip for two.

There will be a meal after the game.

Colin Naismith's Team Wins the Fraser Cup

Congratulations to Colin Naismith, Robert Charters, Steell McFadzean and Charlie Jack.  They finished their Fraser Cup campaign unbeaten on 12 points from 7 games, having drawn last night with Peter Galloway's team.

Other winners from last night's games were Euan Lawrence, Peter Kennedy and Jim Dunlop.

The final table is shown here.

Next week,  at 7.15, is the start of the President's Cup. There are only three teams playing next week, with teams 7 and 8 having a bye. On all other weeks all 8 teams play. You will see from the draw that each team only plays 5 games in this year's competition. The semi finalists will be taken from the top 4 teams at the end of the league stage.

Jim Henry

It is with great regret that we have to announce the death of our Honorary President, Jim Henry. Jim passed away last night and we shall advise you of any funeral arrangements once they are known.

Jim's funeral will be held at Kirkoswald Parish Church on Wednesday 25th November at 11.00 am, thereafter to Kirkoswald Cemetery.

Alistair Henry has suggested that because the car parking at the church is limited, those wishing to attend might car-share where possible, use the car park at Souter's Inn and walk up the hill.

The family extends a warm welcome thereafter to Malin Court Hotel.

As well as a former President and current Honorary President of the Gangrels, Jim was the longest serving member of Kirkoswald Curling Club, for many of these years the Secretary, and a former Club President.

He was also a former Board Member of Ayrshire Curlers PLC.

In his 60 plus years of curling he toured Canada in 1983 along with his two brothers Malcolm and Alan in the Strathcona Cup. He also served with distinction as the National Competition Convener of the RCCC.

He was a man who loved his curling. He had great integrity, knew how to do things the right way and was a source of wisdom to many of us. He will be sadly missed.

One Week to go in Fraser Cup

No change in the top four positions this week, with wins for Colin Naismith's team and George Hay's. The position, with one week to go, is that Colin is on 11 points and George is on 9. A win or draw for Colin will see him home and dry, but a loss might be interesting!

There were also wins for Euan Lawrence (Allan Hastie's team) and Jim Dunlop.
The league table is here.

Week 5 League Results

Tonight's games saw wins for Francis McCrossin and Ken Ross (skipped by Ernest), a big win for Colin Naismith and a draw between Allan Hastie and George Hay.

Allan's team was skipped by Euan Lawrence. It transpires that Allan will not be well enough to play for the rest of this season, but he hopes to be back soon thereafter. We wish him well.

The league table, which can be viewed here, is shaping up quite nicely. With only two weeks left, Colin's team is setting the pace with 9 points. George Hay and Francis follow with 7 points each and Ken Ross has 6.    The remaining four teams will have to fight it out to avoid last place.

League Results Week 4

Colin Naismith's team continued unbeaten at the top of the league with a 12-4 victory over Peter Kennedy. They started with a 6 and at a later end all 16 shots were in the house, but only a single shot was scored by Peter's team.

In the other games there were wins for Allan Hastie, George Hay and Francis McCrossin.

The new league table is here.
