PRESIDENT’S/CRAWFORD CUPS LEAGUE - FINAL RESULTS

 The final round of the President's/Crawford Cups was played on Mon 23 Mar at Greenacres having been rescheduled from 9 Feb when the ice booked had to be cancelled due to an ice condition problem on the day.  On Sheet A, Gangrels 3 (Reynolds (S), Hogg, Henry, Mutter) played A&A2 (Mitchell (S), H Kennedy, Shanks, Smith) and surged in to a commanding lead to be 8 shots up by the end of the 3rd.  A&A retaliated by taking 5 shots over the next 2 ends but Gangrels 3 closed the door by taking singles in the last 2 ends to win 10-5.

On Sheet B, Gangrels 2 (Stubley (S), Galloway, Lawrence, Niblock) met a redically restructured A&A 1 (Todd (S), Black, Thow, J Cherry) and both Rinks struggled to correctly guage the variations in the swing and pace of the ice.  Notwithstanding, A&A1 took a lead of 4 in the first end but Gangrels 2 then scored 8 over the next 2 ends.  A&A shortend the deficit by scoring 2 in the 4^th end to lie 6-8 but Gangrels moved ahead again over the remaining 3 ends to shake hands 13-6 winners.

 Nine "Pointers" took to the ice on Sheets B and C at Greenacres on Mon 16 Mar to compete for the Robert Boyd Pairs Trophy, 7 from Gangrels and 2 from A&A.  The ice was keen on both sheets but the swing on each was radically different which was to cause the majority of the players perplexity, frustration and humour in equal measure.  Even Jimmy Niblock's new broom and knee pad did not ward off the snurglies!  That said, timely progress was made overall and in the alloted 2 hour period, 8 of the 10 disciplines were completed.  The winners were Ally Henry and Ken Ireland with 32 points, second was Fraser Hogg with 27 points and third equal was Peter Reynolds and Ronnie Peat with 21 points.

The Gangrels trophy will therefore be awarded to Ally Henry at next week's AGM.

GCC/A&A PRESIDENTS/CRAWFORD CUP RESULTS - ROUND 6 - 9 MAR

The penultimate round of the President's/Crawford Cup leagues was played at Greenacres on Mon 9 Mar when all 6 Rinks were on show with Gangrels 1 (Peat (S), Lawrence, McFadzean, Cherry) playing A&A1 (Graham (S)      (vice Baines), Black, J Cherry), Gangrels 2 (Niblock(S), Charters, Stubley, Galloway) playing A&A2 (Mitchell (S), H Kennedy, Shanks, Chapman) and Gangrels 3 (Mutter (S), Gray, Reynolds, Hogg) playing A&A3 (R Wilson, Ireland, L Wilson, Haddow).  The final round will be played on 23 Mar having been rescheduled following the cancelled ice for Round 3 on 9 Feb.

On Sheet A, Gangrels 1 took 5 of the 8 ends played to win 9-3.  On Sheet B, Gangrels 2 just held off a late charge by A&A2 to win 7-6.  Finally, on Sheet C, Gangrels 3 took 5 of the 6 ends played against the previous league leaders to win convincingly 12-1.

PRESIDENT’s CUP LEAGUE AND CRAWFORD CUP ROUND 5 RESULTS

 The 5^th round of the President's and Crawford Cups were played at Greenacres on Mon 2 Mar when Gangrels 2 (Lawrence (S), Niblock, Charters, Galloway) faced the league leaders A&A3 (R Wilson (S), Ireland, L Wilson, Haddow) on Sheet C and Gangrels 1 (McFadzean (S), Cherry, Watson, Peat) played A&A2 (Mitchell (S), H Kennedy, Shanks, McKinley) on Sheet D.

Gangrels 2 started strongly and took the first 4 ends to lead 8-0 but A&A3 relied positively by taking the next 2 ends to then lie 3-8 at the end of the 6th.  Gangrels 2 successfully concluded the game by taking a single at the 7^th and a further 3 at the 8^th to shake hands as winners 12-3.

On the adjacent sheet, A&A2 also took singles in the first 4 ends to be 4 up at the 5th.  Bob Cherry then had an awkward fall on the ice and injured a thigh muscle which resulted in him having to withdraw from the game.  Spurned on by this misfortune, Gangrels 1 then took a 4 followed by a further 3 to draw ahead 7-4 at the end of the 6th.  As the bell rang, A&A2 took a single at the end of the 7^th to lose 5-7.
